Description
Crab apple, Malus sylvestris. This deciduous plant produces spectacular blossom very early in the spring. It has been grown for it’s fruit for generations, most farms would have an orchard with crab apple trees growing in it. The fruit is bitter but has endless uses, probably the most common of which is to make cider. This tree can be grown in a medium sized garden as a single tree, it can also be planted as a single tree in a hedge row. It responds well to pruning in the autumn and will grow in most soil types .
