The common pear tree is n ative to Western Europe and thrives in England due to the perfect climate conditions it needs to grow the luscious fruit. It loves the sunshine in deep nutrient full soil in mild conditions meaning that it will grow almost anywhere in the British Isles  as it can stand up to the wild temperament of the weather.

Although we consume the fruit, wildlife also love this tree as blackbirds, thrushes and other small song birds enjoy the sweet pear fruit. Bees also live off the small white flowers as they are laced with pollen. Smaller creatures such as caterpillars live within the. bark of the tree where they thrive

Description

Common Pear, Pyrus Communis, is one of several varieties of pear that has been used to produce many more ‘modern’ varieties. It is ideal for any size of garden and produces a medium size fruit that is used in many culinary ways, such as baking, salads, poaching etc. It’s juice is used to make a fermented drink known as Perry. The fruit is best picked just before it is ripe if possible and stored somewhere cool to ripen. It will grow in most soil types but of course it is best planted away from frost pockets.
