Description

Princess Tree, Paulownia tormentosa, is a deciduous ornamental tree. It has massive leaves which are soft to the touch, at the widest point they can measure two feet wide. The beautiful violet flowers arrive in the spring before the leaves. It is not a tall tree and does not mind being trimmed heavily, however this could reduce the flower production for the following spring. The trimming back of the branches will encourage the leaves to grow large and enhances the natural architectural value of the tree in any sized garden. It is fast growing and has excellent carbon capturing qualities. It will grow well in poor soil as well as good soil, it is an ideal tree to help reduce erosion, it’s definitely a tough little tree.
