Description
Hazel, Corylus avellana. This deciduous plant is used to mix with other species for hedging purposes. To get the full benefit of this plant, if used in a hedge mix, the hedge needs to be managed on a system that allows the hazel to grow to at least 2m high. The squirrels and humans love the nuts. Hazel nuts are used extensively in the food industry. The plant is particularly beautiful in the early spring. Hazel can make a really good individual bush in any small garden. When coppiced, every 3 to 4 years, the sticks can be used as support for vegetable growing.
