Bare root plants are available to order now for priority delivery from November

Mountain Ash produces beautiful springtime blossom. In mid to late summer the blossom turns to red berries and can last well into the winter. The berries can be used in all sorts of culinary dishes, however when the berries are ripe the garden birds will also make good use of them! The tree is suitable for most sized gardens. It will grow in virtually any region of the UK, in good and poor soil, even between rocks with virtually no soil. Mountain Ash however does not enjoy chalk soil.

In addition to the sizes below, we also have larger bare root, potted and root ball Mountain Ash trees available with a height of 2.5 and 3.5 metres and girth of either 4-6cm or 6-8cm. Please call on 07740 719473 or email sales@organichedgingandtrees for more information on our taller trees.

Description

Mountain Ash, Sorbus aucuparia, a brilliant species in my opinion. It works everywhere in gardens, woods, hedgerows, streets, parkland. It has something to show for itself right through the growing season. In the spring it has beautiful blossom and through the summer it produces an amazing array of berries every shade of red and orange possible. The one problem is that the birds love the berries and when they ripen they are soon gone. However the leaves continually change colour throughout the Autumn. A very good value tree, I understand the berries can be made into jellies (please check formally before eating!) Will grow in any reasonable soil.
